Looking for books that feature 2 characters that have an extremely complex, intense, important relationship that can’t be neatly called “romantic” and kind of defies categorization. They are each the most important person in each other’s lives and would fall apart if they were separated. But they aren’t necessarily together romantically/sexually. Just like a very intense friendship/partnership that feels a little bit gay anyway. Strong preference for both being women.
If people have seen that meme that’s like, “are they lovers?” “worse”. That kind of energy.
I’m cool with romantic undertones as long as it’s extremely complex and possibly a little messed up and them actually dating/committing to the romance would be complicated but that doesn’t stop them from being incredibly important to each other.
Cool with any genre, though fantasy/sci fi is always a hit with me.
Examples of characters (some book, some not) that have this type of relationship:
Elphaba and Glinda from Wicked
Gideon and Harrow OR Camilla and Palamedes from The Locked Tomb
Jayce and Viktor from Arcane
Thanks in advance!
