The last full novel I read was high school required reading. The last books I read for fun was in middle school (probably some dystopian fiction or a teen vampire romance). Nowadays, I’m realizing my attention span, vocab, media literacy, writing skills, etc have been deep fried by social media.
I used to love reading books and want to make it more of a priority but it feels impossible to sit through anything without getting distracted.
By senior year, I had to listen to the audiobook while reading just to focus. I honestly feel a bit embarrassed that I’m an engineer, but all the books that sound interesting feel too long, too dense, too complicated, or way above my reading level.
I know this is a skill needs practice so my goal is to start with reading 15 minutes a day.
Preferred genres: historical fiction, fantasy, adventure
Dislikes: smut (ok with romance, nothing too graphic), self-help, finance
