Books that feel like watching a gore video?

I'm not just talking about violent books. More specifically, I want books with an ominous, gritty, and bleak vibe. Stories that rouse morbid curiosity. There is violence, but that violence is particularly disturbing or shocking. I want stories grounded in reality, so no fantasy, supernatural, or sci-fi, please.

Kinda like the book Smaller and Smaller Circles by F.H. Batacan or the movie Seven.
