This is going to be more general advice for your selection than actually suggestions.
A lot of things are going to factor into this :
When is the deadline? How much of the story do you have to adapt? Do you have a job/other responsibilities? How much time can you reasonably put into this endeavor?
If you don’t have to adapt the whole thing and they are looking for a proof of concept/splash art/etc- you can basically go ham and chose something that appeals to your taste.
Otherwise I would say tread carefully and focus on SCOPE.
Chose a short story or novella, something you can read in a day or less.
Audiobooks are going to be your best friend here.
Comic book art takes a long time to execute so you probably have to condense the story even more.
Focus on what you can accomplish in the time that you have.
