Hello bookworms of Reddit!
I am planning my A to Z challenge for 2025 (I’m making my list now both to make it easier for 2025 me and because I’m the kind of person that likes crossing things off lists lol) and am missing some letters. I need suggestions for the letters:
J
O
R
V
X
I enjoy most genres but generally stick to thrillers, non-boring non fiction, and light fantasy (I do struggle with picturing things so no high fantasy). Right now the list is very thriller/horror heavy, but I’d like some more variety
Also! If you have a recommendation that you think is REALLY REALLY worth checking out and it doesn’t match my letters I’ll take em anyways! I’m trying to get some back up options for the other letters in case I absolutely hate what I’ve picked lol.
Thanks in advance! I’m more than happy to trade my own recs. I was an avid reader as a child and teenager but fell out of it due to mental health issues and other factors. I’m just now re-igniting my love for books. Thanks!

Jade City by Fonda Lee is a light-fantasy Wushu-Godfather cross. The jade powers are basically used to explain standard movie martial arts. First of three books, but it has a conclusion.
(The) Rules of Contagion is a look at the way things spread, written by someone involved with the early days of Zika. Everything from viruses to memes.
Just to clarify/sorry if this is a silly question: the titles need to be these letters, not the authors?
For J I would recommend Johnny Got His Gun. Harrowing but a fantastic novel
J: Joe by Larry Brown; Junior’s Leg by Ken Wells
O: Ozark Dogs by Eli Cranor
R: Razor Girl by Carl Hiaasen; Redemption Road by John Hart
V: The Vine that Ate the South by JD Wilkes
Nothing for X, sorry.
