I'm interested in relatively recent examples (published within the last decade or so) of literary fiction that feature truly great, lyrical, even poetic writing that shines on a sentence by sentence level, and that are populated by characters with depth. I like to be transported into the world of the book, but I don't necessarily need to be swept away a page-turner with a suspenseful plot; I want to have a satisfying and unique aesthetic experience. Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse is an old favorite. I'm grateful for your suggestions!
