That's it really. I've been seperated for 18 months and coparenting, social life isn't thriving really, I want to read something engaging that makes me feel like I'm there.
Everyone has their own tastes but The Hobbit is my pick. Fantasy in its purest form and it’s called fantasy for a reason. The characters are warm and genuine and there for each other, whether its shared struggle or in moments of humor. You watch them adventure through different far-off-places and feel like you’re part of their band of travelers.
I’m reading Emma by Jane Austen right now and I can see it being a good pick too especially if you’re on the feminine side. Characters in a slower-paced small town world, with their own circle and unique innocent personalities. Their own little world with plenty of dialogue and interactions of warmth and gossip and growth.
Both are great and even better reading alongside an audiobook for that immersion. Hope things pick up for you btw

I don’t know about it specifically being written this way or if it would work the same for you. But I remember reading the ‘shades of magic’ series by ve Schwab when i was in your exact situation (except it was also covid isolation time lol.) And it was a light in the darkness for me. It was so engrossing and entertaining that I could actually forget my cares and loneliness. Hope this helps!!

Barry takes us with him on his journeys. You can feel the sting of the cold on your face, smell the pine forest.
People always ask “What’s the one book you wish you could read for the first time again?”. It’s this one.
