About six months ago I finished reading Interview with the Vampire and asked this sub if I should read the next book. Many people encouraged me to and said the writing/story telling improved with The Vampire Lestat.
Oh my god, I’m so glad I persevered. I absolutely fell in love with the characters and world building, I read the Mayfair Witches trilogy (which is far better IMO), and I just finished the Blood Canticle. And it was … okay.
I know it’s the original ending to the Vampire Chronicles.
I’ve heard conflicting information about the last three Prince Lestat books and I know many people didn’t like them. After Blood Canticle, I’m weary about the next three. (Though I’m willing to give Blood Canticle a pass because her husband died during the publication efforts.) Realistically, how long can a series be good before it starts to jump the shark?
I know how often people can become annoyed if a beloved series and character returns and doesn’t fit their own expectations. Because I haven’t spent decades with Lestat, I don’t have any expectations. So I’m here to ask, does Prince Lestat have good story telling? Basically, is it a Harry Potter and the Cursed Child or The Force Awakens?
