It can be traditionally published or indie. I'm looking for any books that you can't find on booktok and have a small audience or cult following. But have an interesting story structure, characters, and/or writing.

Sacred and Terrible Air by Robert Kurvitz

It’s an Estonian novel written by the creator of the video game Disco Elysium with no official English translation, that’s really only popular among fans of Disco Elysium as its set in the same universe and heavily features the concept of “the Pale” a nothingness that is slowly consuming the world. There are two semi-professional fan translations into English. I read the Group Ibex one and quite enjoyed it. Parts of it are a little post-modern and it can be hard to follow at times as there are vague shifts in POV and time jumps both forward and backward. The main plot focuses on three childhood friends obsessed with solving the disappearance of 5 sisters they knew in school as kids.

I don’t know what’s on Booktok but these are some favorites of mine I don’t think are super famous or trendy.

Homeward Bounders and Dalemark Quartet by Diana Wynne Jones (fantasy)

      Invictus by Ryan Graudin (sci-fi)

Check out The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers for character-driven sci-fi or The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison for a unique, under-the-radar fantasy with rich worldbuilding.
