I find the idea of people being matched together by some fiat of the forces of fate kind of messed up. I like free will, and individual liberty. This trope pops up in fantasy, here and there, often with some supernatural entity barging into a human's life, sometimes kidnapping them, because they are Destined Mates.
Is there a story where the human just isn't having it, says no and means it, and fights for their freedom and choice?
