I'm writing a medieval fantasy and need some inspiration for how a renaissance/Tudor spy ring might work. The juicier court drama, the better—my books lean heavily into those themes.
Can be historical fiction or fantasy—I'm just looking for examples of comps that do it well! (For example, I think ASOIAF does really well with political scale in a medieval setting—I don't need as grandiose and intricate as that, more of a "cold war in medieval times" feeling)

Wolf Hall by Hillary Mantel. You might also like Sharon Kay Penman. She wrote a bunch of books about medieval England (When Christ and His Saints Slept, the Sunne in Splendour). The other recommendation I would have is the Accursed Kings series by Maurice Druon. I read the first one, and his description of Phillip the Fair is terrifying. GRRM actually cited the series as inspiration for GoT.

    2. You’re looking for The Accursed Kings by Maurice Druon. Intrigue at the French court in the 14th century.
