I’ve never read a Western. Suggest to me the best! I would love a great story with cowboys, Native Americans or Chinese immigrants (not all white characters preferably), action, romance, epic adventure, some mystery and most of all great writing. No fluff pls. Too much to ask for? I hope not. Tia

Lonesome Dove. There is no other answer
*Valdez is Coming* by Elmore Leonard
*True Grit* by Charles Portis
*Blood Meridian* by Cormac McCarthy
*I loved Outlawed by Anna North*
*It isn’t a classic Western, but has many of the same themes in an alternate 1800’s Western United States.*
True Grit
Lonesome Dove, True Grit, and anything by Cormack McCarthy.
The Sackett Series Louis L Amour is after Lonesome Dove for me . Starts in England and follows family across the country. Sacketts Land is the first
Agree Lonesome Dove is excellent! Was very pleasantly surprised (aside from the racist treatment of Black and Native American people—not surprising given the period). Audiobook is well done if that’s your jam.
