Hello,
I have recently started reading, and even though I read really slow, I do enjoy it. I mostly read history books, and I am looking for a little break from them; but not entirely 😛
I want to try a fantasy book set in a medieval world and am wondering if you guys have any recommendations. Of course there is Game of Thrones, but I want to save them for later.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Lions of Al-Rassan by Guy Gavriel Kay
How much fantasy and what era? Like, the actual medieval period (500s-mid 1400s) or something more Renaissance (1400s-1600s). A lot of fantasy – especially D&D-inspired – isn’t consistently one or the other.
Deryni Rising (The Chronicles of the Deryni, #1) by Katherine Kurtz starts a series that feels very medieval, with a focus on religion and castle life.
The Crystal Cave by Mary Stewart beings a 4-book series about Merlin and King Arthur, and it’s very grounded in the early medieval period (500s). Not a lot of magic.
The dragon and the George and sequels by Gordon Dickson. It’s very medieval.
Navola by Paolo Bacigalupi
The Ranger’s Apprentice by John Flanagan. Ready good series (mostly) grounded in reality. There are 2 prequel books called The Early Years, focusing on the Ranger who trains the apprentice. You can enjoy the books without reading them first, but they do add context.
Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander
Cart and Cwidder by Diana Wynne Jones
