I am looking to get my niece a book that will challenge her but appropriate content-wise. My niece is 10 years old (4th grade) and an avid reader. The tests they take at school show her at a middle school+ reading level. Recently her parents have been struggling to find books for her to read that match her level AND her maturity level. She's already read the entire Harry Potter series. Currently she's working on the Twilight series… which I have some concerns about. Her mom thought she could read The Hunger Games but I strongly suggested the material and overall themes are too mature for 10 – give her a few more years. Even at 13 I'm not sure I quite understood the entire political emphasis of the series.
Before you mention it- this summer I will be reading The Hobbit with her and her cousin for our book club we have. I am very excited about that 🙂
I've tried suggesting the Nancy Drew series, I think she's already read most of Series of Unfortunate Events, she's read a few Percy Jackson novels and I am encouraging her to read the rest. I am not as familiar with newer releases for this demographic, has anyone read Legendborn- can she read that?
Any help is appreciated, just want to continue her love for reading with appropriate material!

My niece is 9 and also a voracious reader. She’s really been enjoying Agatha Christie and the Redwall books.
I highly recommend the Ranger’s Apprentice series! I was around ten when I started reading them. It’s a captivating series that stays within an appropriate range content-wise.
I also recommend Suzanne Collins series for younger readers.
The Inkheart series by Cornelia Funke is incredible.
Diana Wynne Jones Chronicles of Chrestomanci
Tamora Pierce Song of the Lioness
The first couple of Tiffany Aching books (Terry Pratchett) but not the later ones that get more mature. MC is 9 and 12 in the first two
