I’m having an anxiety spike lately, and nothing works quite so well as having a new series to lose myself in.
I’ll list my favorite genres & series as a loose guide, but I’m open to most genres outside of non-zombie horror, YA, and contemporary romance.
Genres I love or have been into recently:
-
LitRPG
-
Space opera
-
Sci-fi in general
-
Fantasy (no YA)
-
Zombies/post-apocalyptic (it’s actually been years since my last zombie kick so I’m probably super out of date as to the latest good series!)
Series I’ve read and either enjoyed or loved:
-
LitRPGs: Dungeon Crawler Carl (if you haven’t read this, do), Primal Hunter, All the Skills, Mother of Learning
-
Sci-fi: Murderbot (read if you haven’t), Bobiverse, Wayfarers, Dauntless (I’ve read the Expanse, it was meh)
-
Post-Apocalyptic: Dang it’s been a hot minute so I’m not going to remember most, but my standout here is the Purge of Babylon series, which he’s released approx 3937 books since I last read him so I should just start there
-
Fantasy: Kushiel’s Dart, Temeraire, Scholomance (ok literally everything by Naomi Novik), Kate Daniels, Succubus Blues, most everything written by Tate James (I know TJ isnt all fantasy, also it’s not the RH part for me, I like her stories, I’d prefer no RH suggestions). And don’t judge me, but I liked ACOTAR and Throne of Glass, although I got bored of ACOTAR after book 3.
Thank you!!!
Edit: I’m looking for primarily recent series (post-like 2015). I’ve read most of the classic/90s/early 2000s fantasy/sci-fi greats, I didn’t include them because they kind of exist in their own category in my mind.
