Hi, one of my favorite tv-shows ever is Starwars: Andor. The new season is coming out in a few months I think, but in the meantime I’ve been really craving stories with similar themes and subjects.

One of the things I find most interesting about Starwars: Andor is how it explores the full depth of revolutionary political movements and insurgencies, without glossing over the sometimes ugly details.

That means I’m really looking for stories that have some of the following: clandestine political scheming, the activities of insurgent/terrorist cells, espionage, the maneuvering of various factions with divergent interests, assassinations, heists, raids, conflict with an oppressive government or other authority, etc.

I love sci-fi, but I’m open to anything.

    Thanks!

I have only read his first book, but you might or might not find something along these lines in Tom Clancy’s bibliography. The things I liked about his first book were the numerous perspectives, parties, and individuals playing into the plot of the book, as well as the politics and the overall tension. I wouldn’t say, though, that it’s thematically similar.

It’s on my list, but you might instead like his second book, *Red Storm Rising*, which is apparently about a fictional war and has a lot going on in it: espionage, combat, politics, etc. I haven’t read it, so I can’t speak too much on it, but if it was anything like his first novel, which takes you through a big story that makes the protagonist feel small, you may enjoy it. That’s what I appreciated the most about Andor— it made Star Wars feel a lot larger, and so many people were involved in one huge issue.

Do be warned, though, that his books (I believe this applies to all of them, but I’m really just speaking with the first as a reference) are full of military jargon and highly technical terms to amplify the realism. It’s structured so that you can follow what’s going on, but can sometimes be a lot to absorb.

    2. This might be taking your ask a bit too literally, but the Thrawn series in the Star Wars universe from Timothy Zahn was great. It takes place in the post Return of the Jedi World – with the universe a bit in chaos after the rebel victory and the death of the emperor. Tons of (admittedly made up galactic political infighting) politics in general and then sone good ol Jedi stuff.

Idk I read some of the other extended universe SW stuff and a lot of it stinks. But the original Heir to the Empire by Zahn is good imo.

Others will probably suggest The Expanse series but I think it’s overrated.

Damn, I’m a stone cold nerd. Please read the above statement in Comic Book Guy’s voice.
