I usually read fantasy books but I am looking for a SciFi series like Aliens that is pretty intense and with an alien species that hunts you or is pretty deadly. Any recommendations out there? Looking for something that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Bear in mind I read this when I was a teenager in the late 1980s and I enjoyed it. Not sure if it stands up in 2024 or with someone older. But The Legacy of Heorot by Larry Niven reminded me of Aliens when I read it. I believe there was at least one sequel, not sure if it went past that (without looking it up).
