Okay I'm not actually a librarian in the sense that here in the US, you can't be called a librarian without a masters degree, but I am a reference assistant at a library, so I deal with the nonfiction section. I am constantly, day in and out, dealing with nonfiction, and yet it is still the genre I read the least of.
Because I am a nonfic librarian, I have read a lot of nonfic, however, I'm very random about what nonfic I read, so I almost never read what's popular at the time it's popular, so there are a lot that may seem obvious that I haven't read. I tend to get the new books or shelve books, go 'oooh I want to read this' and forget about it.
So I ask you to recommend your favorite nonfiction book for a nonfic novice.
