My dad used to read a lot and loved the Dortmunder novels (humorous mysteries) and the MythAdventures (humorous fantasy series). He also loves anything with twists that he doesn't see coming. One of his all-time favorites is Dancing Aztecs by Donald Westlake. I was hoping to find him a new book or series with the same appeal but that he hasn't already read. Recently published books or older books I can find used are both welcome suggestions. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

    1. My first thoughts go to Douglas Adams, best known for *The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy* (which would fit the bill if humorous sci-fi is acceptable). He also wrote a couple of mysteries that were good too: *Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency* and *The Long, Dark Tea-Time of the Soul*.

I’m not familiar with the books you referenced though, I’m just responding from the title and hoping they suit.

    2. Jana DeLeon Miss Fortune series and Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich are both laugh out loud light mysteries.

The 100 year old man who climbed out the window by Jonas Jonasson

It’s not exactly a mystery, and it’s based in the real world. But it’s an epic adventure with so many twists and turns. It’s funny and it’s absurdist. If he likes it, Jonasson has lots of other books I would also recommend.
