Recs for books with Breath of the Wild vibes?
Specifically though for me, I want the angst to it. What I loved most about BotW was the memory aspect – the idea of a fallen hero picking up the pieces while their other half is watching, hoping to reestablish the only sense of normalcy they can still muster in a world so gone.
After finishing the game for years I'd read all the fanfics focusing on Zelda's perspective of almost reaching the bond with Link she always wanted, just to have it ripped away, or the fics of Link desperately trying to come to terms with what happened while tackling this new environment that is doing its best to match the few memories he has.
This one might be a long shot just due to how I am as a reader, but does anyone else have any recs for anything along those lines? I'm a sucker for fantasy angst in the longing sense, the slow burn of proving together a mystery that you hope restores the main pairing.
Any help would be great! Or even if you can't rec anything that specific, I'm down for any other recs that broke your heart in the fantasy world (especially if beauty and the beast trope, fantasy royalty, or based on fae. Spicy or not doesn't really matter to me, I'm just a sucker for feeling heartbroken and desperate!
