I live in a small rural town in the woods but our state is pretty blue (if that matters). I have never been to a book club nor have I ever created one. Well I'm creating one now lol. I have taken it upon myself to pick the first book for every one to read and I'm nervous. I personally like really traumatic books that I don't know would be a good fit as the first book. I want to keep these ladies coming back to the book club not scare them away but I also want it to be a good book which will make them want to come back for more. I don't know any of these women I started the group online. Personally I'm an introvert and I suck at socializing so really I am out of my mind taking this on. Anyways any suggestions? I'd guess we are all in our 30s and we are all mothers but that's all I know.

    1. SATprepScholarships on

How about *The Calm Before the Storm*… just to ease them in before you hit them with *Trauma: The Novel*?

    2. Ask your local librarian if you have one. They read a lot, know what is popular in the area, and can help find copies for your club to borrow.

    3. Create a list of three books. Let people vote, and based on results you can make some decisions.

For example if it’s fairly even between all three, rank them by total votes and then read each in a row.

If there’s a clear favorite start with that and then next book do the same thing but keep the second place book from last time.

If you don’t want the pressure of picking the three books, do a first meeting where everyone coming brings a candidate and you add everyone’s book to a list to choose from and then of course do the voting etc.

Just a couple of ideas. Hope this helps and have a great time!
