Books about surviving tragedies/difficult circumstances

I've read books like Into Thin Air and Endurance and loved both. I need more non fiction adventure stories about surviving difficult circumstances where everything goes wrong. Not necessarily mountain climbing or arctic exploration either (think of stuff like Touching the Void or even something like The Descent from 2006), literally anything and the more contemporary the better.
