I still vividly recall being given a lovely hardback of Michael Ende’s The Neverending Story (the version with the alternating green and red text) and another hardback of Victoria Hanley’s The Seer and the Sword as a teen. Granted, I made it known what books I wanted, but I loved both of these and was so excited.
What are some of the best books you’ve been given as gifts (whether you asked for them or they came as a surprise)? And an early early merry Christmas!

Graham Greene ***Brighton Rock*** when I was about 11 or so…
The Annotated Jane Austen editions with so many in depth annotations that they are more than double the page number compared to the originals.
(And as a child I also got this green red Michael Ende.)
