I'm currently really enjoying A Long Petal of The Sea by Isabel Allende. I live reading but mainly read non fiction. Every time I try fiction I usually give up before the end. I'm really enjoying this though but I'll be finished in a day or two. What should I read next?

I think the key ingredients for be are quality writing, accurate research and also the chance to learn something about a period in history or another culture. For example at the moment I'm learning about the Spanish Civil War and Chilean political history through the backdrop of Isabel Allende's story, which is impeccably researched.

Some of my other favourite authors/books are Khaled Hosseini (Thousand Splendid Suns, The Kite Rinner), Anthony Doerr (All the Light We Cannot See) and Sebastian Faulks (Birdsong).

Some suggestions from you lovely people would be great.
