I'm feeling very pigeonholed as a sci-fi reader and would like to branch out. I’m looking for books that have similar themes, pacing and storylines to the books I love (below)just without the science fiction. Things I like about these books is they are fast paced adventures with solid likable characters.
Sci-fi books I’ve liked:
The Expanse series.
The Murderbot series.
The Collapsing Empire series.
Recursion
House of Suns
Thanks everyone!

If you like Iain Banks SF, try some of his “straight” fiction, like *The Business*, or *The Wasp Factory* (content warning on that one, it’s… disturbing).
[1. “The Lies of Locke Lamora” by Scott Lynch](https://amzn.to/3BIEoEh)
Genre: Fantasy
A fast-paced heist story featuring a band of clever thieves in a richly detailed world. The intricate plotting and likable (but flawed) characters make this a fantastic choice for fans of adventure and camaraderie.
[“The Count of Monte Cristo” by Alexandre Dumas](https://amzn.to/4gQiRZb)
Genre: Classic Adventure
An epic tale of betrayal, revenge, and redemption. The sprawling story and tightly woven character arcs offer a thrilling experience similar to complex sci-fi narratives.
[“The Last Kingdom” by Bernard Cornwell](https://amzn.to/408qt3F)
Genre: Historical Fiction
The first book in The Saxon Stories series, this action-packed historical novel is centered around Uhtred, a warrior caught between Saxon and Viking cultures. It’s rich in history and has the kind of fast-paced plot and compelling characters a sci-fi reader would enjoy.
