Okay, this is an oddly specific request, but hear me out… I tend to have quite a short attention span. I want to increase this by reading, and I notice that when chapters are short, I read more. I just started The Midnight Library on Kindle, and notice that the first 15 chapters all take less than 5 minutes to get through. Which motivates me to read another chapter. Then, when there was a longer chapter, I was invested and determined to keep reading. I also do this with physical books, flip through to see how many pages are left, and get motivated/demotivated by how much there is.
I know it’s a bit of a weird brain hack, but it works for me. So does anyone know more books, where each chapter is relatively short? Or the first few chapters are, so I can get into the story? I tend to enjoy contemporary fiction, thrillers, biographies and sometimes historical fiction, if I am in the mood for that. I do not really care for fantasy or romance novels…
Some more specifics: I am really enjoying The Midnight Library. Some of my other favourite reads this year were: The Nightingale – Kristin Hannah, Goodbye Tsugumi – Banana Yoshimoto, What you are looking for is in the library – Michiko Aoyama, Strong Female Character – Fern Brady, None of this is true – Lisa Jewell

In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado is a great book with short chapters. It’s a memoir/autobiography.
