Genre fiction for lit fic “snobs”?
A bit of a tongue in cheek title haha. I don’t think “literary fiction” as a genre makes such sense but it’s helpful for what I’m describing here. I love the idea of reading more genre stuff (especially fantasy, and scifi but an open to other genres as well).
However I’ve found that recommendations online are of what seems like endless amounts of not very great novels that totally fall apart when analyzed with any kind of scrutiny. For instance I read A Psalm for the Wild Built earlier this year and found the sociology/philosophic commentary to be horrendously shallow.
Some authors who fit into the category of “genre fiction thats literature” for me would be Tolkien, Ursula Le Guin, Octavia Butler, Kazuo Ishiguro, Some of the classic authors like Austen or Dumas, or even Jeff Vandermeer’s Southern Reach Trilogy.
TLDR; I’m looking for recommendations of genre fiction that’s a little more literary and meant to be analyzed. I hope this all makes sense!
(Ps please ignore the first line, I’m on mobile and not used to posting on Reddit, I don’t know how to delete it 😉

Stanislaw Lem is the guy! His Master’s Voice is my favorite, while Memoirs Found in a Bathtub draws comparisons to Ishiguro’s The Unconsoled
