Looking for a horror novel thats unsettling, with dark religious themes and a focus on human corruption or moral dilemmas.
Books about death cults or possession are also welcome, as long as they lean into suspense and horror.
[I just finished A History of Fear by Luke Dumas, and I really enjoyed it. (Quick non-spoilery summary: A twenty-five-year-old American grad student confesses to the murder of his classmate, claiming the Devil made him do it.) It was such a gripping read, and it left me wanting more books in this vein.]
My only request is that if possible, the book doesn't include animal sacrifice or death
