I know that's a broad request so here's something more specific: unsettling, with dark religious themes and a focus on human corruption or moral dilemmas.
Books about death cults or possession are also welcome, as long as they lean into suspense and horror.
I just finished A History of Fear by Luke Dumas, and I really enjoyed it. (Quick non-spoilery summary: A twenty-five-year-old American grad student confesses to the murder of his classmate, claiming the Devil made him do it.) It was such a gripping read, and it left me wanting more books in this vein.
I don't think I have ever read a book that revolves around satan, hell, etc. so anything along those lines would be amazing.
My only request is that if possible, the book doesn't include animal sacrifice or death. Thanks in advance.
