Need a genuine advice. English is my 2nd language and I love reading. But I am a really picky reader. I have noticed that when I read a book, if it doesn't "grab" me within the first 5-10 pages, I won't read the book.
My fav: James, The Bee Sting, Killers of the Flower Moon, Life of Pi
Dislike: anything dystopian, sci-fi, Demon Copperhead, North Woods.
I am trying to read "The Sympathizer", but I cannot get past page 7 — this is usually a bad sign, but so many people recommended this book.
I also tried to read "100 years of Solitude". I liked it, but mid chapter 2 – I got lost because there are too many Jose. I had to draw the family tree and realized the library lost the "map" that's supposed to be in the book. I will read this book again.
Any recommendations?
