    Trying to read more books and scroll the internet less,. I devoured three books in a little over the past week based on recommendations I found on this sub, they are The Hike by Drew Magary, Sun Dial by Catriona Ward, and The Ritual by Adam Neville. I find that I enjoy a lot of morbid and darker reads, loved House of Leaves and I am Legend, one of my favorite books of all time if Cruddy (Lynda Barry). I'm seeking similar reads.

    I also loved the Hot Zone, any nonfiction books that are similarly interesting in a morbid/terrifying kinda way are welcome.

    1. You may like Peter Swanson books.
      The first I read was The Kind Worth Killing.
      And another one that comes to mind is Her Every Fear.

      He writes interesting dark characters and you can always count with to have your expectations subverted in the best ways.

    2. Morbid nonfiction:

      * Parasite Rex by Carl Zimmer

      * Any of [Bill Schutt’s](https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/1375485.Bill_Schutt) nonfiction

      * Big Chicken by Maryn McKenna

      * Stiff by Mary Roach

      * Plagues and Poxes by Alfred J. Bollett. This one is written in more of a dry, textbook-like style. It’s really not a page turner, but I found it informative.

      * The Ghost Map by Steven Johnson. This one is written in a more riveting, page turner kind of way, BUT it compromises on the accuracy to do so. The author overemphasizes the narrative of “one special genius who did what no one else could,” but in reality science is not like that. Often, multiple people are working towards the same understanding, so if it wasn’t this one guy, it would have been someone else.

      Try The Lesser Dead by Christopher Buehlman. One of the best twists and implementation of said twist I’ve ever read. If you’re reading the ebook, keep reading when it says it’s done. Trust me.

    4. Charming-Bluejay-740 on

      The Little Girl Who Was Too Fond of Matches

      The Last House on Needless Street

      I’m Thinking of Ending Things

    5. The Poison Artist by Jonathan Moore

      Will my cat eat my eyeballs and smoke gets in your eyes by Caitlin Doughty
