Not looking for well-written books, looking for pulp. Easy to keep up with, even when reading in a distracted environment, which I usually am.
I recently discovered Gothic paperback novels of the 1960s and 70s and love them but I keep getting the endings where nothing was ever actually supernatural going on – natural explanations are revealed to have been the cause all along. Bah. I got into these because of my love for 60s/70s Gothic romance comics where there are plenty of ghosts and other supernatural stuff, so I'm spoiled and want books that can live up to that standard.
I just read two Dorothy Daniels books – The Tormented and Juniper Hill – and they both fit my request perfectly, especially The Tormented. It checked every box. I have looked at a lot of other Dorothy Daniels books and can't find another that seems to be within the specifics of what I'm seeking out. I have been consulting GoodReads to try to ascertain whether they are ghost stories or not. She seems to write many genres so it doesn't seem I can just grab one of hers at random.
I read a couple Clarissa Ross and, while I did enjoy them, they were Scooby-Doo'd.
I have been reading these books on Internet Archive, btw.
