I'm looking for some amazing novels to read in 2025. For context this year I loved reading The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese and Lady Tan's Circle of Women by Lisa See. One of my favorite novels is One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez. I know this example is Western, but I just finished Lady Macbeth by Ava Reid and loved it. A little bit of magical realism, or themes of medicine/healing are also of special interest to me.

Thank you so much in advance for any recommendations you have to offer!

Here are some books I think you’ll love. The Mountains Sing by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai is a powerful family saga set in 20th-century Vietnam, filled with resilience and healing. The Henna Artist by Alka Joshi, set in 1950s India, follows a woman creating her independence through healing art.

For something epic, Pachinko by Min Jin Lee tells the story of a Korean family in Japan, exploring survival and identity. If you liked the magical realism in One Hundred Years of Solitude, try The Bird King by G. Willow Wilson, set in Muslim Spain. Let me know if any of these speak to you!
