As the title sugests, I want a book where the main character is an AI, but not some super sci-fi type thing in the far future, more like he is the first ever fully sentient AI, born in some military research facility and just strives to live out AI retirement or just on his own so he goes along with his creators. I also want it to be mainly told from the AI's perspective and it does not need to be published.

Level Five series by William Ledbetter
Scythe by Neal Schusterman. It’s a trilogy and the AI has a bigger narrative role in the 2nd book.
I’m not sure if this fits—she’s not military or the first AI—but perhaps *Klara and the Sun* by Kazuo Ishiguro? It’s told from the AI’s perspective.
The Bicentenal Man. maybe. have not readf it yet. just watched the movie long ago.
