Every time I meet someone who knows a lot about various topics, I find it really fascinating. It’s not just about quick facts, but the depth and connections between different ideas that make conversations engaging. Is there a book that explores a wide range of interesting subjects in a meaningful way, offering more than just surface-level information? A book that delves into ideas, history, economics, science, and culture, allowing for deeper understanding rather than just a list of facts. I know it seems unrealistic, though, since reading such a book would make school, to some degree, unnecessary. I don’t expect that one books covers all, if you have an idea though, don’t hesitate to tell me. Thank you in advance.

When I was a kid, our parents got us a Worldbook Encyclopedia set, and I spent a few years trying to read the entire thing. It’s exactly what you’re asking for. And recent editions may be available free to read at many public libraries.
A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson
