Hi all. I'd like to start supporting more independent, local bookstores, but I bought into the Kindle ecosystem a long time ago and it'd be hard to move away from it at this point. Anyone have insight on how I could send my business to my local, or at least independent, shops while still reading the books on a Kindle?

Buy a paperback, then download the book from somewhere. You are allowed to back up your purchases for your own use, so you could just type the whole thing into notepad. Just downloading it is someone else doing the typing for you. You paid for it.
If you do any audiobook listening, do it through Libro.fm! It allows you to buy audiobooks directly through local bookstores.
I also do a lot of reading on my Kindle but then at the end of the year I buy a physical copy of my favorite reads through my local bookstore.
Depending on the shops, there might be other ways to support them – buy tickets to events, get your morning coffee from them, commit to buying hardcopy books as gifts for others, buy merch and bookmarks and wrapping paper etc. Most stores have had to diversify their offerings to stay afloat in the era of eBooks, so there should be lots of options!
Buy their eBook or physical copy, convert/pirate it for the kindle?
