Hey y’all,
I am trying to get back into reading. I won’t get too much into my woes but frankly I’m struggling a bit with how vacuous a lot of media I consume feels as of late. Social media reels, shitty streaming shows I put on just to fill silence… I’m really trying to make a change going into this new year.
That being said, social media has certainly taken its toll on my attention span. I don’t think I can just jump into reading like Camus or Dostoevsky or something lol. What’s your recommendation that strikes a balance between thoughtful/thought-provoking and entertaining?
If it helps- I’m a big Vonnegut fan, I feel he does strike that balance well. But I’m a bit burnt on him at the moment and could go for something a little bit more narratively straightforward, less absurdist. Also enjoyed Dune and Three Body Problem, the last two books I read, but might would prefer something with fewer “hard” sci-fi elements.
Anyways, know that’s a big list of caveats but would appreciate any suggestions! Thank you : )
