So halfway through this year I became frustrated at the brain rot caused by social media and my lowering attention span (as well as the depression that accompanied it) and set out to improve it.
I deleted all but one social app which I heavily monitor my use on and started to read a bit more.
I am so happy tonight because after I finished work I thought about how I would like to relax this evening and was pleasantly surprised that over watching TV or surfing videos that I wanted to read for the night.
So I'm reading Mysterious Skin by Scott Heim. What books are you finishing out 2024 with?

In the last week of 2024 I started reading again after a few months off. Finished The Mercy of Gods – James S.A. Corey and ran through some short stories:
* Just Out of Jupiters Reach- Nnedi Okorafor
* Slow Time Between the Stars – John Scalzi
* The Long Game – Ann Leckie
All part of The Far Reaches short story stack. Then started Ministry of Time – Kaliane Bradley.
Some years I read a book or two a month, this past year I only read 2-3 books the whole year.
Just a side question, did it help with your attention span? I feel like I’m in that boat right now of wanting to change that
Love that reading is something you genuinely look forward to. I read pretty much everyday, and its usually one of the best parts of my day.
I’m currently wrapping up two different books:
Powerless by Lauren Roberts. Not enjoying this one, but I only have about eighty or so pages left and can knock it out in the next day or so.
Letters from an Astrophysicist by Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Really good. Like that this is something you can easily pick up and put down. It’s really a breeze to read.
It’s a book called They Both Die at the End. It’s a book about an app that gets created that calls you twenty-four hours before the moment you die.
Reading is a great hobby. And very cheap, if you use the library a lot. Like you, I prefer it over TV.
Mysterious Skin is such a great book, so sad and heartbreaking. I loved it, and want to reread it now too lol.
The Expanse series has been a blast. Just started book 7 yesterday and am pumped because supposedly the last 3 books are the strongest of the series, and I’ve enjoyed it all.
