Hi All
Working on my TBR list for 2025 and looking for some inspiration.
I've come to be interested in books on culture clash and immigrant experiences of any kind in 2024, and have read a few I very much enjoyed. I'm intrigued to read more.
It doesn't matter much what kind of experience or where from. Also doesn't matter if to US or UK or anywhere else – can be absolutely everywhere. Can be heavy or dramatic or fun or light – drama, romcom, thriller, fiction or (semi-)autobiographical etc. – anything goes.
Some examples of what I read this year (list not exhaustive)
* Crying in H Mart
* Real Americans
* American Dirt (yes I know this one was controversial)
* Jaded
Any recommendations? I've heard of Pachinko and that's on my list.
TIA

Open Water and Small Worlds by Caleb Azumah Nelson are both beautifully written books that touch on the struggle of being a second generation immigrant in the UK.
I loved Pachinko and Memoirs of a Geisha is one of my favourites. Not culture clash per se but class conflict amongst cultural elements of Japan.
Brick Lane, Wandering Souls, On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous – The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns deal with culture clashes in Afghanistan/Pakistan. Can only name ones I’ve read but I enjoyed these
Everything Sad is Untrue by Daniel Nayeri is aimed primarily at a younger crowd, but it’s a fantastic book that deals with the immigrant experience. I’d recommend it to anybody.
Erotic Stories for Punjabi widows,
Island of the missing trees by Elif Shafak a little
