Horseman, Pass By/Leaving Cheyenne/The Last Picture Show are all in Thalia trilogy, so i recommend the first 2 if you haven’t read them. The movie Hud (with Paul Newman) was based on Horseman, Pass By. I also enjoyed the Terms of Endearment/Evening Star characters. I enjoyed the other 3 of the Lonesome Dove 4 book series also.

If you read the Last Picture Show, I highly recommend reading its sequel “Texasville”. It picks up about 25 years later and the focus shifts to Duane and most everyone from the first book are in it to some extent. It’s a lot funnier and reeks with the overconsumption and excess of the 80s, but was such a memorable read for me. Whereas TLPS was mostly somber, Texasville glows like a neon sign at an all night diner where everyone is a stranger and there isn’t a town that can make you feel at home

There’s also Texasville, a sequel of sorts to Last Picture Show (same characters, same town, decades later). And I also enjoyed Anything for Billy, Folly & Glory and some of those that blend non-fictional characters in.
