    Hey all!

I'm looking for a book set in a post-apocalyptic world (could also be a somewhat deserted planet not earth), where the main story is an adventure. Something where the main character or a small group goes to see different location but has a goal other than just staying alive.

Also, I like to read to fantasize and escape, so for me grim stories where everything is horrible aren't my vibe. Plus terrible before bed. I understand that post-apocalyptic involves some darkness, but ont he lighter side ideally. Even cozy or young adult style is fine.

My main inspiration for this is the Fallout TV series recently. Going into the wasteland with a purpose, there's some bad things happening but overall relatively lighter tone, sees a lot of places, meets different kinds of people, a little bit of humor. That kind of stuff. Borderlands video game is another genre that works for the theme. Doesn't have to be earth.

So far the best prospect I have is "A man and his dog at the end of the world", but I get mixed signals on the darkness of it . Any suggestions?

    1. Jim C. Hines Janitors of the Post Apocalypse series. Mostly genuinely very fun, the janitorial field has been vastly under explored in science fiction.

Last one will rip your heart out a little – author lost his wife to cancer while he was writing it and you can tell. He puts it back, though.

    2. The Mossheart’s Promise by Rebecca Mix is a fantasy post-apocalypse that I think so just what you’re looking for.

Lark Ascending by Silas House might also fit
