I just watched “The Last of Us” and “Arrival” and the most interesting and terrifying parts of them were the beginnings.
The very first episode of “The Last of Us” was my favorite. The planes flying around for unknown reasons, the panic of trying to leave the city, and how the military responded were all very striking.
In Arrival, the interplay between foreign countries and how different countries responded to the Alien invasion was my favorite part. It was interesting seeing how the “Eastern Bloc” (China, Russia, Sudan) coordinated.
The moment where China and Russia disconnected communication, so the US followed was a scary insight into how countries as a whole might follow the principles of game theory.
Are there any well written books that illustrate the strategy of militaries, breakdown of societies, in the face of a worldwide event?
