Hi, I'm looking for a book that has a high level view of life. No religious texts.
For some background, I've been in therapy for a couple years now, and have dove into more "self-help" and books about my individual experience. Although I've built a good understanding of how my emotions and the people around me have affected me, I don't really understand the outside world.
I spent a lot of my undergrad making stuff as an art major, not really getting into the weeds about why certain people rise up to the top, general philosophy, or how economies/money/resources move around, or how people organize into countries and communities with or without the urge to want to annihilate each other.
One book that comes up while I look is Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari, and The Book by Alan Watts. I don't want to dive too deep into looking at humanity as an outsider or be too self-focused internally (which is why I think these 2 compliment each other). I'm also open to fiction that have these themes. Any other recommendations are welcome!
It might not be just 1 book. If it's one book on philosophy, one on econ, one on human behavior etc I'm open. I just kinda want the feeling of being somewhat "in-the-know" about life and the same page. I can always find threads in a general book to expand on if my interest leads me there.
I feel like everyone else got their orientation except for me lol TIA!!
