Northern Mexican writers who write on the natural history of the desert and desertic mountains?

I live in the SW United States, about 50 miles from the New Mexico-Chihuahua border, and study wildlife professionally. I am a big fan of American desert nature writers like Ed Abbey and Mary Austin, but don't know the first thing about their Mexican counterparts (if any). Can y'all recommend anything very roughly in the vein of books like Land of Little Rain or Desert Solitaire?
