I’m an avid reader but my appetite and progress has flagged since joining the real world with an adult job as a 24-year old young professional 🫤. Trying to get back on the wagon by getting through at least a book a month this year… so I’m looking for exactly what the title says. A good, compelling book, but a shorter one. Want to start the year with one I can and will finish quickly so I am motivated to continue my journey! Genre doesn’t matter, but I skew towards Sci fi, mystery/thriller, and a bit of fantasy (I know these genres are tough to find shorter books in so don’t feel bound by them by any means). For reference, some of my favorite works are Blood Meridian, American Gods, and then there were none, Slaughterhouse 5, 11.22.63… thanks in advance!

Binti by Nnedi Okorafor. Science fiction novella. And if you like it, there are two more in the series (which I just checked out today).
How about another Neil Gaiman if you like American Gods. Ocean at the end of the lane is only 195 pages.
Some more.
What You Are Looking For is in the Library by Michiko Aoyama. Healing fiction
The Full Moon Coffee Shop by Mai Mochizuki. Healing fiction
All Systems Red by Martha Wells. SF
What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher. Cozy horror
Penric’s Demon by Lois Macmaster Bujold.
To be taught, if fortunate – Becky Chambers (around 150 pages)
