Misery is good.
But a LOT of his books are good…
Carrie is his first and short.
Carrie
The Stand. It‘s long but what a ride!
I recommend The Shining or Salem’s Lot as a first novel from King
For a shorter, more propulsive/single-focused narrative – The Long Walk
I don’t know why people are recommending super long books.
Start with The Green Mile. Or Misery.
I would start with a short story collection like Night Shift. You can get a sense of his style with shorter stories and decide if you want to commit to a full book.
If doing a full book, My vote is for The Shining. Very different than the movie and showcases some of his trademark tropes
Misery, Carrie.
If you love writing, start with Shawshank Redemption. But be careful, it may become one of the best books you ever read.
