Imo, I recommend Carmen. It’s not about a saint, a priest, and a temptress, but rather a soldier and a free spirited woman, and it’s a classic, so I hope you don’t mind! I’d recommend Carmen; it’s one of my all time favorite novels, and it has a play. You’ve probably heard the song “Habanera.” Don José is a soldier who encounters a Romani woman named Carmen and falls deeply in love with her. This intense love torments and corrupts him, leading to dramatic consequences. Don José has laws to uphold, a mother to protect, and a country to serve, while Carmen values her freedom above all else. For Don José, rank and titles are significant, while Carmen views life as a wave to ride, experiencing it in a state of ebb and flow. The theme of control and freedom makes Carmen one of my favorites.
