In 2024, I read just to read again. But I realized that I was finishing books I hated due to sunk cost fallacy. And I was avoiding things that might potentially align more with my interests.
I tend to gravitate towards horror/thriller, anthro stories, queer stories (doesn’t matter what kind) and some sci-fi/fantasy.
Some books I liked a lot were Erasure (Percival Everett), Giovanni’s Room (James Baldwin), Kindred (Octavia Butler), Maus (Art Spiegelman), Misery (Stephen King)
The rest, I hated, was underwhelmed, or thought was really boring: Crime and Punishment (Fyodor Dostoyevsky), The Reformatory (Tananarive Due), Cujo (Stephen King), The Silent Patient (didn’t hate it. Was just a little disappointed)
I don’t know if this hodge-podge helps or not, lol. The rec doesn’t have to have ALL these qualities. Just a few is fine. If you have any other advice, that would be much appreciated 🫡
Thanks in advance! (if anyone responds, lol).
