Best space book? In a space ship, exploring the universe. I’ve read 2001. I want something like the vibe you get from watching Alien or any movie where they are in space

* Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds. Everything has a dark, open-space, isolated vibe that reminds me a lot of the Alien movies.
* Blindsight by Peter Watts. It’s available as a free ebook on the author’s website. This is the most terrifying “meeting aliens in space” book I’ve ever read.
* Nightflyers and Other Stories by George R. R. Martin. A collection of short sci fi horror.
* There are official Alien movie novelizations written by Alan Dean Foster. I don’t love Alan Dean Foster’s writing, so I have not read these, but you may be interested in them.
Some that are less horror-y
* To Be Taught If Fortunate by Becky Chambers. About exploring different planets, not so much living in space, but it has more of a 2001 vibe imo. Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers, about colony ships in space which have contact with the rest of galactic civilization so people can enter and leave. It doesn’t have the same vibe as Alien or 2001, though.
* Seveneves by Neal Stephenson. Humanity scrambles to move to space in the wake of a disaster.
* Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. A very popular book set in space.
