Interested in reading real stories from drafted troops & veterans. Not looking for overtly political books but first-hand accounts discussing the terror of the situation, psychological impact of what untrained troops were forced to partake in & the horrors they witnessed, life operating in Vietnam etc.
I'm in the UK & very interested in this segment of US history. Open to any suggestions, cheers!

The Woman by Kristin Hannah is phenomenal. I don’t think she herself is a vet, but the book is VERY eye-opening. I learned a lot about Vietnam; before the war, during, and the reintegration back into society.
The things they carried by Tim O’Brien is an obvious standout that hits the nail on the head
*Matterhorn* by Karl Marlantes
*Close Quarters* by Larry Heinemann
Fortunate Son by Lewis Puller Jr.
